Target Audience:

  • All health care professionals in GP and Pharmacy settings that have been called-off to deliver Stop Smoking Services as part of their Approved Provider List (APL) Agreements
  • Other allied health care professionals that deliver a Stop Smoking Service

Stop Smoking Service Update Refresher Courses:

Half day update refresher courses will run over a period of 3 hours.   Three update course options given to trainees on the day, one will be chosen to suit the needs of the audience.
 

1.Making Every Contact Count (Medication & Behavioural Support focus)

Target audience - those that have completed the 1-day course and NCSCT CK&S
3 hours

Content

  • Local service update – EMIS, VISION & Pharmaoutcomes, changes in local policy e.g. medication supplies, target groups (e.g. pregnancy, young people, mental health)
  • Varenicline, Buproprion & NRT update
  • E-cigarette update
  • Ask, Advise and Act (in each of the settings – sharing best practice session)
  • Behaviour change technique (MI session)
  • Practical exercises in groups
  • Relapse prevention
     

2. Making Every Contact Count (Detailed Medication focus)

Target audience - those that have completed the 1-day course and NCSCT CK&S
3 hours

Stop Smoking Service Level 2 Training Course:

One Day Level 2 training  

Target audience - those that have completed the NCSCT CK&S
Essential online course - NCSCT CK&S

Topics covered include:

  • Assessing people’s readiness to quit, handling barriers and challenging questions
  • How to increase people’s commitment to change
  • Practising the core competencies listed in NCSCT Standard Treatment programme
  • How to deliver the full NCSCT evidenced-based behavioural support programme
  • How to encourage the uptake of pharmacotherapy treatments and increase client confidence to complete the stop smoking programme
  • Relapse prevention strategies, including ways to support people to take control of their options and plan alternative coping techniques

This interactive course will increase the confidence and ability of participants to deliver an effective stop smoking service to their clients.

Local service update – If needed, we can arrange for post-workshop visit from the Smokefreelife Oxfordshire team covering topics such as EMIS, VISION & Pharmaoutcomes data monitoring, CO reading, shadowing opportunities on support sessions and any other queries (e.g. pregnancy, young people, mental health). There is a lot of content to get through on the day, which will mean some queries will be covered on your 1 to 1 visit from the team.
